The most important battle in the fight against the North American filibusterers led by William Walker coming from Nicaragua took place in Santa Rosa, and it has also been the scenario of other historical battles. The mean annual temperature is 28°C.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;LOCATION&lt;br /&gt;Santa Rosa National Park is located 35 km north from Liberia and it has an internal 7 km-long, paved road leading to the Casona de Santa Rosa Museum. It’s a part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;MAIN ATTRACTIONS&lt;br /&gt;Santa Rosa potects the most important example of protected dry forest of Central America. This forest is characterized by a marked difference between the rainy and dry seasons, when it looses most of its leaves. In the coastal sector the red mangrove predominates as well as other species of mangrove vegetation of Costa Rica.&lt;br /&gt;In Santa Rosa there are 115 species of mammals; such as the white-tailed deer, howler monkey, white-faced monkey, and coatis. It’s the magpie that predominates the species of birds.&lt;br /&gt;Visitors may also enjoy the beaches: Naranjo, Playa Blanca, Santa Elena Bay and El Hachal Bay, located in the Murciélago sector and Nancite, very important for the Mesoamerican Pacific for the spawning of the Olive Ridley turtle. Due to its ecological characteristics, access is restricted.&lt;br /&gt;SERVICES OFFERED&lt;br /&gt;Potable water, look-out, camping area, restrooms, general information, trails, biological station, meals service, conference rooms and lodging for researchers.&lt;br /&gt;To visit the Nancite sector a prior reservation is required. There is a camping area, restrooms, potable water, trails, lunch area and lodging for researchers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;REGULATIONS&lt;br /&gt;It is forbidden by law to bring pets into the Park, to remove plants, animals, or any other natural resources.&lt;br /&gt;Use the receptacle provided for cigarette butts, do not start fires. Use the grills located in the camping area, use only coal or commercial gas.&lt;br /&gt;Please, place all the garbage in the receptacles provided.&lt;br /&gt;Walk only on the defined trail. Use always a flashlight at night.&lt;br /&gt;Always carry water and appropriated shoes.&lt;br /&gt;If you visit Naranjo Beach it’s a must to carry water. Access is possible only in four-wheel-drive vehicles.&lt;br /&gt;Fishing is not permitted in this protected area.&lt;br /&gt;Take only pictures, leave only footprints.&lt;br /&gt;A permit is required to visit Nancite Beach.
